Allison I can't believe you live in Minot. My sons race dirt bikes and we are in Minot about 2 weeks every month for 5 months. I also ran into an old class mate at a race Ervin Perkins, his son also races.

Hello to the class of 1981!
This is Shauna Neece. As far you know, Sherri Neece (Johnston) is already become grammie to my daugther, Rachel who is 2 yr old!. She is so far excting to be a grandma. And Jessica, my oldest sister, is getting married in the fall of 2006. My mom is getting old and loving to see her 3 girls having baby, get married, college, etc. What a fast year for her to look back in High School! It was nice to be up in P.I. for Thanksgiving we made a really quick stop. Like a 16hr drive is quick!
It was cold & windy but the snow Thanksgiving day was beautiful. I took a great picture of some pines with snow for my christmas cards this year.
I saw Janet Lamoreau-Cyr and her twins at the "mall" (they are so cute). I hadn't been home for Thanksgiving in 20 years!

Hope all are having a great Thanksgiving and that your sharing it with family and friends.
Moving around the country has its benefits but it sure does curtail having close friends and family to enjoy the holidays. My wife and I have family in the Portland area and ususally have them over but everyone is 4 hours away.
Usually I enjoy cooking and entertaining during the holidays but this year I find I'm somewhat less encouraged to cook for my wife and the boys. The boys don't like to eat what I do and my wife would just as soon eat at a restaurant which is not something I even think about.
I'm thinking I would like to take them all back home for the holidays just so I can have some of the more traditional holiday happenings I grew up with. Nobody prepares you for being from New England in a foreign land. I am however still thankfull for my family here and will preservere I just wish the boys would eat potatoes?
On the other hand the boys eating less means there's more for me which would be a subject for another conversation regarding the size of my jeans currently.

Just looking to see what was new and was pleased to see the memorial for Kimberly Dee Sherwood. I remember the day she had that photo taken, it was her Senior picture taken the summer before our Junior and Senior year. Jeff Cooper was the photographer. Kimberly had a pure heart and I pray her daughter was old enough when she passed to remember what a lovely person her mother was.

We just moved up to a little town around Seattle and moving ourselves for the first time was hard work but we've arrived.
Over the years and throughout my travels in this country I heard many places called many things not all of the good not all of them bad. I've always considered my personal experience in a place to be more relevent then just a name because names are subjective and dependent on the namer's point of view.
However, I also believe in our right to form oppinions and voice them so Patsy I liked reading your thoughts and please be sure to share more.
Visitor, I don't understand why you seemed to take issue with Patsy but please be more specific. For example how about using your name and how about using your own writing to let us know about your personal experiences to help us understand.
Thats all I've got to say about that. I hope those folks on the gulf coast get the relief they need. Its ugly watching CNN slowly get the story out. How did Florida fare?

I spent a week in Ruskin, Florida visiting my cousing Cathy Crory ('79) last April. Although I had a good time and enjoyed Cathy's generous hopsitatlity, I was quite happy to escape.
While there, I saw an interview with author Carl Hiassen who theorizes that Florida is the cess pool of America due in a large part to its shape and location. It is shaped like a handle so you can tip the rest of the country up and let all the sludge run directly down to Florida. After all, where else in the world would a guy be elected to hold public office AFTER he has been convicted of assorted crimes and is serving a term in prison longer than his elected term? (true story) Just read Paradise Screwed.
Glad to be living in Maine.

Florida didn't work out. I have to say it was one of the nuttiest places I've been in this country and I'm sure glad that I'm back out west!
I was away from my family off and on for 3.5 months and I have to say I didn't like that much either.
Learned some things on my way through and discovered some truths about where I'm at in life....what I believe is a rare event when you have so little time to think about things. Being away from all that I was used too and my family gave me some time to look at my life from a different perspective. It made me realize just how much was at stake with making the wrong career decisions and how it could affect the course my family is on.
I have to say I never realized just how used to being out west I've become and just how much I liked it comparatively. Its not fair to compair the two coasts because they are different and varied in the lifestyles they present.
Some casual observations were:
I felt like during most business transactions I was likely at risk of being short changed or ripped off in some manner. This occured everywhere from purchasing a meal to contracting with suppliers and suncontractors.
I can tell you that I thought it was funny how much people there would wave their hands around and jesticulate while they were driving like I could've understood and actually cared what they were jetsiculating about.
I can honestly say that New York people were the worst of the worst. If they weren't trying to close a donald trump single family housing realestate deal like I was buying a 100 acres of water front in Miami to build a casino on.....they were trying to drive over the very people I had working for me to get to the next stop light.
Its pathetic but people from New York can never leave New York behind they just take it with them where ever they go and poison the earth with their BS.
So things being as they were there for me I knew I didn't want to raise a family where they would be unduly influenced by a lifestyle that included the hustle and bustle of the east coast, poor schools, a crazy housing market, hurricanes, sticky hot weather, crazy drivers, and poor work ethic/habits.
Other than that I'm sure its probably a nice place to visit during the right time of year for everyone else besides me in the country but me.
I apologize to those that may consider SE Florida a nice place but just live there for a while before you take issue with me.
I know I can be a bit oppinionated but what the hell was I thinking?

Home trashed while owners on vacation

Damage reported in excess of $10,000 at Eastport house
EASTPORT - They were in Florida last week to attend a family member's wedding. It was their first vacation ever and Alvah "Junior" Seeley and his wife, Sandra Seeley, were excited. But just one day before the wedding, their delight turned to dejection. While they were away, someone had broken into and vandalized their home.
"My son got married in Florida and he wanted all of us there so he paid for all of us to go down and spend the whole week," Sandra Seeley said Tuesday. "I didn't realize until someone told me [Monday] night when my house was trashed [last] Tuesday, it was actually trashed on my birthday."
The Eastport police called them in Florida on Thursday and broke the bad news. The word "trashed" doesn't even begin to paint a picture of what took place inside."Massive destruction," is how Officer Chris Gardner described the scene Tuesday. "Everything from antique china, television, furniture, major appliances, everything had been either overturned or damaged in some way," he said.Police estimate damage at more than $10,000, but admitted that figure was climbing.
"We've lost a lot," Sandra Seeley said quietly.
Two juvenile males have been questioned as part of the investigation into the incident, according to police. No one has been charged.
Friends and co-workers of the Seeleys have started a fund to help them out. He works as a longshoreman and digs clams. She is a waitress at a local restaurant. She said they have five children. Two, ages 15 and 16, are still at home. "My other three are grown up and out on their own," she said. The Seeleys were not insured. "All I know is the fact that this damage doesn't appear to be covered by any insurance," Gardner said. "It's indicative of the fact that it's expensive and people have to choose what to go with and what to go without."
The Seeleys had left for Florida the day before someone broke into their house.
A few days later a friend discovered something was amiss at the two-story house on Adam Street behind the high school and called police.
Within hours, police were talking to two 15-year-old males. They declined to elaborate on the investigation.
Chief Matt Vinson said it appeared the vandals had been drinking.
Sandra Seeley's boss, Dotti Perkins, who owns La Sardina Loca Restaurant, shook her head as she recalled what the inside of the house looked like. She said police had asked her to accompany them to check on some of the contents. "They [the vandals] didn't miss anything. Every single thing in that house was turned over and destroyed," she said. "I guess they missed one shelf on the wall because it was behind a door. They even ripped shelves off a wall. Her son's computer got ruined, TVs. They've worked hard their whole lives. Junior clams to support his kids because there's not many ships coming here very often anymore," she said. "It's really frigging hard to make a living here in Eastport. Sandra's always worked."
The refrigerator and freezer doors were left open and food was ruined. Perkins said area churches had stepped forward with food packages.
Not only was the house trashed, but the vandals threw up on the furniture and rugs. "My rugs are trashed, they vomited everywhere," Sandra Seeley said. "They ruined all my blankets. We had to throw my couch out because you can't get the smell out of it." She said they plugged up the toilet with paper and then "did their job all over the top of the rest of it. I mean it was nasty. "A neighbor took a video of the damage. Sandra Seeley said the video made her cry.
First Assistant District Attorney Paul Cavanaugh said although he could not speak to the specifics of this case, he said it would be up to the court to decide if the boys, if they are charged, should be bound over and tried as adults. He said the judge would make that determination based on several factors, including the seriousness of the crime, any prior criminal history and public safety.
This is not the first time that vandals destroyed a house in Eastport.
In 1995, five boys trashed the summer home of a retired doctor. In that case, the insurance company paid out more than $97,000 for the loss.
City Manager George "Bud" Finch described this latest act of vandalism as a random act. He said Eastport is the kind of community that would help its neighbors. And Perkins is trying to make that happen. She has begun to raise money for the couple.She hopes businesses from Bangor to Calais will help, as well as eastern Maine residents. She said no donation was too small. "It doesn't need to be a lot of money. Five dollars because you take ten $5 donations and that's $50," she said.
Checks or gift cards from area stores such as Wal-Mart or Marden's also would help. Donations in care of the Seeleys can be sent to: La Sardina Loca, 32 Water St., Eastport 04631.

Hi Everyone....I must admit it is very nice to be able to read everyones letters....
Rosemary....yes I do remember the babysitting at the Bunnells...and everything else that went along with it....back then I thought it was great to be earning a dollar an hour and be able to have the fun that we had at the same time....I must admit, I certainly look at babysitters for my children with much more open eyes...lol. Rose...we need to get together...Waterville and Farmington are not far from each other...and with summer coming....sounds like a plan...and congrats ont eh camp...I remember our families getting together at the camp your parents rented every year. Well I hope some of the folks I went to school with will look at my photo and see my wonderful family. Life from the small community of PI has been good for me, but I still think about my hometown and I miss the folks up there (but not the blackflies). Most of my family has left that area also, my mom passed away about 10 years ago and never needed to go back. I want to say thanks for this wonderful web sight hopefully it will stay running for a long time and I can get a little news now and then. Bye for now!

Hello all! well I'm home sidelined with a Rotator Cuff Tear and did a google search, and look what I found,this site! I think this is great, a place to catch up with old friends and see what's happening. I haven't been up to the County for a while, I think the last time was in 92, after retiring Early from the Navy. we're hoping to get up there this summer, My son wants to see where dad grew up *L*. hope he won't be disappointed! but the timing on that depends on when the Docs want to cut the shoulder open.

Mary my daughter is away at college right now finishing her first year, hard to believe actually we will be going down to visit her tomorrow she plays softball for the college she attends. I've got a couple wild kids myself 14 & 16 boys they love their snowmobiles and dirt bikes. Actually we have a few friends who live in Rome on the Watson Pond Road and in a Development off that road but the name isn't coming to me. I miss the county where thinking of buying some land up there for a camp its such a nice place to get away. You must live right past Days Store? Or in that area? We live on the lower end towards Augusta.

wow- too funny! I just discovered this site a few weeks ago(great job, btw!) and there is a post to ME! I had to go back and catch up on everything (yeah, including Rose's opinion about my wild kids! snicker snicker they Do give her a run for her money and sometimes i think she needs it!) Kerry, we've been here about a year and a half- I do love the area and people, technically we live in Rome but we're just above the bridge in the village. I miss the County but not the loooooong winters. So give me a yell sometime if you're in the area! I must say my life is probably MUCH different from most people our age - I'm still chasing after a toddler but he is a blast! btw, does your daughter babysit? :)

Hope everyones doing fine. The PI basketball teams did a really good job this year, good luck in the future. Its so hard to believe that we can have kids old enough to be playing HS ball, but my oldest is almost done her freshman year of college at Merrimack College so I guess we are old enough Hope everyone survives mud season.

Howdy Folks,
Well looks like I'm heading back east. My new job will be in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area.
Can't wait for the sticky humid weather and hurricane season! Don't know much about Florida but expect I'll be learning a lot begining next month.
I'm a little nervous about the move but think that in the long run it will be a good one for my family. The way I figure it is that all those folks who retire to Florida can't all be wrong.

went to my nephew, kyle's, last basketball game in bangor yesterday...they lost against camden...the refs sucked but camden played a strong game...it's strange how the auditorium looks so much smaller now then when i was in high school...sort of like life i suppose---it's all so magnified when we're young then shrinks to a realistic size as we get older...go figure :-)

A bunch of PIHS fans went to watch Allison's nephew, Kyle Rideout, play (he used to play for us)! We got into town too late and I still have a "little" one that needed to go to bed!?! Sorry to not mention the girls - it's still a very sore subject! I don't think that any of us had a daughter playing but Paula Deschesne McHugh's niece, Natasha, played her heart out!

not my child torry, but my nephew, kyle rideout, played for presque isle and recently moved to dover foxcroft...went to the game between pi and dover a few weeks ago and it was weird to be cheering for a team other than pi...it was an awesome game...dover won by a couple of points but it was tight the whole game...saw sherry there---don't think i've seen you since school sherry but you look great! saw jerry at that game too...you looked great too jerry! i think we're all aging really well...i've decided that i really love this time in my life :-)

We just returned from Bangor. PIHS Boys had a great game Saturday at the B-Ball Tournament. Jerry McGlinn's son Matt had a great game. Sherry Michaud Beaulieu and Mark Lavway's son Chad helped with the win in a big way. Jennifer Desmond York's son Logan is also on the team. Forgive me if any other classmate has a child on the team and I didn't recognize them!?! June (Judkins) Gallant and I had a good time remembering trips to tournament when we were in High School.

Hi. It's Laura Helfrich. I started out with the class of 1981. I was just browsing 'round the web, looking for information on Dorothy Dingwall (don't ask why) and found this site. I went through Training School and Cunningham with lots of you, and went to PIHS for my first year, but then I went away to school. We moved away from PI the year before you all graduated.
Just wanted to say "hi," especially to Laurie Perry, who was my very first best friend (long before either of us was allowed to cross Third Street on our own)!

Condolences to Maureen (Boyle) Patrick and family. Their father, John, passed away about a week ago. They were our neighbors many years ago, and I have a lot of fond memories of those days. Sorry for the loss...

Steve was one heck of a guy and I cant imagine anyone who ever met him didnt walk away with a smile or smirk on their face. Take care Lisa and let me know when Missy gets close to her due date. We got 23 inches of snow here in Hollis last Saturday....It sure would look better on your front lawn there in Georgia....LOL

Howdy Folks,
Thought I'd write in and speak to some thoughts I've been developing over my past 42 years, please bare with me.
First though I'd like to give Lisa and her family my families condolences. I hope he lived well.
Secondly, I used to have a bit of a crush on Mrs. Piper, I guess I thought she was pretty cool. I'm glad to hear she's still vital, and thriving.
Last year I wrote down a list of thoughts to try and collect myself for pending changes and, at my own risk, I thought I'd share them with my peers.
FIRST are my goals =
Good Health. Got some troublesome structural problems that I need to deal with. Learn how to manage stress.
New project - new job maybe new career.
Buy replacement vehicle for my aged Dodge Dakota.
Buy new House - near future. Getting tired of renting need a great place for the family.
Maintain finiacial stability - Develope, save, work at it, and plan for the future.
Retire at age 60.
Put Boys through college.
I've always been very concerned that I did not finish my education and I want to keep this as a goal, but I've recently realized for myself - whatever made me think that my education would ever be finished?
SECOND are character points I either want to maintain or develope:
Be honest and develope integrity in all that you do. Give an honest days work for an honest days pay.
Don't take things out of your control personally because they are what they are. However, beware of people who tell you not to take it personally because your about to be screwed.
Don't accept less than what you've earned from your past. You'll only learn to accept less.
Develope winning strategies for making winning decisions.
If its important to you then don't take no for an answer.
Poor treatment will grow and fester, don't accept it. Nip it in the bud. Do whatever it takes.
Love your parents.
Learn to have faith that things will be alright.
Have a hobby.
Don't allow yourself to get bullied. Sooner or later your gonna have to face them anyhow. Do it on your terms.
Treat others as you wish to be treated.
Develope patients with the people who are closest to you. With all others develope a plan to limit their impact on your life. Follow through.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Its your supposed failures that will make your future as much as your supposed successes. Treat them the same.
Respect yourself first.
Change can be good learn to embrace it.
Hope all is as well as it can be with everyone.

Does anyone remember Mrs. Piper? I was running a workshop recently at Westbrook High School and she was there! She's been there for three years. I believe her hair style (and color) is still the same. She hasn't changed at all. She must have been much, MUCH younger than I remembered because she looks my age now.
Maybe I was younger than I remembered?
With so many of our former teachers passing, it's nice to see one still so eager and vital.

Merry Christmas, Todd, (and all) your post came to me as an email which got me interested in checking out this great website again. I am still in the Farmington area and twin Mary and her family are now in the Belgrade area- so that's cool- a bit closer. We head to PI in a couple days for a hectic, fun but short Xmas celebration- I can't wait! it's always good to go back :-) and we will be doing that alot more since we just bought a camp on Portage Lake! wahoo life is good! hope everyone is doing great too- Allison - let's meet in 2005 at Mary's for cocktails- her kids are wild~ don't tell her I said that! but they sure are cute.........

I admire your resolve Margo. I can't imagine losing a parent as a child because frankly its hard enough losing a parent as an adult.
I remember the many of hoodilums cause I had to grow up with them too and believe me they know who they were. Hopefully they grew out of it.
In any case Merry Christmas all especially the hoodilums cause I gotta believe God love a hoodilum.

I was in Mr. Steven's class in fifth grade with him at Pine Street. And ofcourse it was "just being a boy" back then. Some things you just remember. It was the first day of 5th grade and he made fun of my mother dying 3 weeks earlier... that's how I remember him and Harry. My condolences.

I knew Sammy while growing up in Mapleton but dont recall any of us going to any other school than Skyway. Maybe Sammy lived in the P.I. area when we were younger? It is very sad because his younger brother Stewart died a few years ago at a young age also as well as his mom. Condolences to all of his family.

Sammye was from Mapleton, I would think he went to school in the 5th grade there wouldnt he? He wouldnt have got to Presque Isle schools until the 6th grade??? Gosh, I dont even remember him being at Skyway now that I think of it. Condolences to his family.

I'd pick Atlanta. Lots of nice suburbs, clean city, lots of jobs, nice weather. The down side lots of traffic. Atlanta has outgrown its highway system.
Philly is a nice place to visit, lots of history, nice places to eat, but I wouldn't like to live there.
Both places are easy to fly out, if you need to travel a lot.

My family and I went camping this week at around 5500 feet (elevation) up on the backside of Mount Hood, Oregon. I had never camped at this campsite, named Tilly Jane, before which is located a couple of thousand vertical feet below tree line. The weather was beautiful, not too hot and sunny. I hiked up the creek trail from the campsite to about 7800 feet and ended up in a draw with lots of sandy, unstable soil suplanted with small, medium, and rather large boulders. The view of the mountain was spectacular and included shear rock faces and dirty glaciers with the bluest of light blue crevases. I took my familiy up o that point the next day and after carrying Ben up a couple hundered feet decided the view was good enough from our vantage point due to the fact I was sucking air like a vacuum cleaner. Its a good work out at that elevation just to carry yourself. My wife, not being much of a hiker, was further enticed up the trail by the shear beauty of the place and the wild flowers that populated the meadows and sides of the creek.
It was a good trip and a great place to visit if yo get the chance.

Howdy Folks,
Summer has been flying by and now that their advertising back to school stuff I'm starting to realize it. Last weekend my family and I went swiming in the Columbia River on the Washington side at Beacon Rock State Park. We've been swimming quite a bit this summer and it turned out to be one of the better places to go. Beacon Rock is an ancient lava dome that sticks striaght up out if the river bank 2-3 hundred feet or so which makes the view from the river fairly spectacular. The side facing the river is made up of columnar basalt which forms after relatively short cooling period of the lava flow. The basalt has an vertical octagonal structure to it which produces a very rugged vertical surface for climbers to acsend.
As we were swiming and rowing around in our inflatable raft I envision a place not touched by us as seen by Lewis and Clark for the first time as they surely did as they descended down the Columbia River to their Winter camp grounds in Astoria. Next year will be the bi-centennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition which I've studied and wondered about since I was a kid. The Columbia river Gorge is still breath taking in this area with the partially forested walls of the gorge rise dramatically out of the river. There's a lot of atmosphere that seems so western to me. I guess I'm pretty taken by it and its affects. My wife and boys don't even think twice about being there because they've either grown-up with it or are growing up with it. To me Its a pretty cool place to be.
Did take a trip home with my oldest son Tim. Tim is growing up fast and is not correcting me so I can't wait for him to be a teenager. I was taken by the sites and smells of home. It's so green and lush there in late June early July. We got to spend some time with family and relatives that I haven't seen for years or Tim has never met. My cousin Cord came up from Paraguay with his family and we had a great time just hanging out into Squapan Lake the now posted and forbidden lake owned and operated by the few remaining lake tirants. My grandfather and father have been going there since before there was a road and infact helped to construct the road to the lake so I take it personally when you can't even access the landing which was always public until some people abused the privilage. It worked out though, now the lake tirants can control lake access and have their own private lake mainly to themselves. Thats all I have to say about that.

Hey Lisa...De Je Vu or what? I was just thinking of you! No...I just scanned it and found 24 more infected files. Most of them Trojans. 22 I got rid of and 2 cant be deleted because it says it is using windows (obviously-lol) It didnt find the major virus which is causing all this mess though. Have you heard of "Morze1"? This virus starts the minute I turn on my pc by making files to look for shortcuts and all these popup ads seem to fuel it..yikes....I cant seem to get rid of this darn thing! And how is your week? LoL Hope your getting all settled there in Georgia. your still planning to come to Maine is August I hope. Denise has moved to Bangor. Ugh! I just returned from Sunny Hawaii (85 degrees) to 5 degrees!?! We had a great time (my sister, Trudy and June Judkins Gallant and spouses)! It is just going to be a very long second half of the winter!

Hello classmates. Thought I would warm up the computer, by reading a few messages on our web site. I don't write any messages, but like reading what everyone else has to say. My life keeps me busy, so there is little time for the computer.
As for the comments, on how our Northern Maine weather has been. All I can say, is that it sure keeps the black flies away!
I have only one more thing to write. I saw an old classmate this past week, Mark Condon. The last time I saw Mark was at our graduation! Some of you probably see him on a daily basis living in Bangor, but it was nice to see him in The County. Write to you later, Tom

Howdy Folks,
You know it may be considered that your lacking in subject content when the weather creeps into every conversation you have although I have to admit it has a lot to do with how we live our lives.
For instance, when we lived in Utah it was blazing hot in the summer and snowed a fair amount in the valley during the winter. The mountains provided most of the recreation what with skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. In Utah could always anticipate that the weather would clear and the sun would shine which was a good thing.
In San Diego it was nice in the summer and nice in the winter with the exception of an occasional rain storm or santa anna winds once or twice a year. You found yourself enjoying the weather like an after thought because it was almost always nice. One thing that I found interesting was that my son's school had classes without hallways the doors just opened up to the great outdoors.
Now we find ourselves up in Washington and I've already relearned not to anticipate any weather except rain and of couse enjoying the sun when it shows up. When the sun does come out here it's received more like what is that glowing orb up there in the sky thats making me squint and try to remember where I put my prescription sun glasses. I've come to the conclusion that we were entirely spoiled, weatherwise, living in San Diego.
So now I'm hearing about the more northerly aspect of weather and yes its colder than heck in Maine but then again its even colder in Fairbanks where evidently the busses will run at minus 50 or minus 28 what ever the case may be.....which leaves me to believe hey his rain that keeps pouring down on my head may not be too bad a thing.
So...thats all I got to say about that but I am wondering about Jon's blown thingamajig and how many of you are on this dang Atkins diet that's so quietly killing me and possibly my wife who I supporting by being a codieter. I rather be a codependent, carbo gorging, eating machine but no here I am losing 10 pounds and swearing off everything that I love and makes life worth living.....of course I may be exagerating just a little.

It was only 28 below - I don't know what got into them to close school!?! It had something to do with the deisel school buses that were "gelling". It just caused lots of problems for working parents! It's 25 above today (that's a huge difference in one day!)We are going skating on the farm pond - no snow but very cold weather makes for perfect conditions!

Howdy Folks,
Hope all had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year.
My family and I are now living up in Vancouver, Washington and although the snow level was down below 100-feet a couple of times we didn't get much more than a hint of snow mixed in with lots of rain.
Yesterday we did make it out of the house for awhile and took a ride up to Cougar, Washington where we found some snow for the boys to romp around in.
I'm looking forward to the new year and swear that it's gotta be a better one than I had last year. In any case I've come to learn having a good or bad year is entirely up to me and that things aren't as bad as they seem most of the time. I have a lot to be thankful for.
I'm starting my New Year out with my Brother and will be going snowmobiling in Bend, Oregon. I haven't been on a sled for more than 12-years so I'll probably not be following Brad too closely. My brother has a sled made for climbing mountains and I'm a little warry about where we'll end up.
I keep reminding myself that my bro is the same guy I've watched on video cruising acrossed 80-feet of open water on his CR500 (with a sand tire on the back). I didn't know you could do that on a dirt bike! I also think of the times I've taken turns riding his quad-runner and not quite daring to jump it 15-feet in the air the way he did. I guess that's why they make insurance!
I've also been trying to be a good father and attend my oldest son's Cubscout funtions, which was something my wife had excelled at during her tenure as a Den Leader in Escondido. I have to say I have new found respect for my wife and anyone else who helps boy scouts, and girl scouts for that matter, achieve the goals and attending all of the stuff. I really struggle with it at times....I'm thinking it would probably be a good goal for me to become a good scout Dad this year. Its so hard to get myself away from working or thinking about work.
Andy/Torry, hope you reign-in whatever the problems are on this site. Its makes it harder to communicate openly when there's someone you can't choke the living crap-out of writing derogatory shtuff. Oh did I mention that I wanted to be a kinder and gentler person this new year as well!

The answer to Andy's question is we have NO snow! It is 40 degrees and my boys got all new snowboarding equipment for Christmas!?! It is not a nice place at the Eaton household with a 12 and an 8 year old that have nothing to do but play X-Box! Please pray for snow and a lot of it!!!

This girl has been harrassing you for over 20 years and I think it's time it stopped. And I agree with you...it is pretty pathetic that she cant get her own life and leave the alcohol and drugs alone cause that's when it seems she does this. Hi all. How is everyone? Hey Ted Stone, are you out there? I ran into your sister Susan today. I recognized her immediately even though I haven't seen her in 20+ years. I had to tell her my name, she recognized my face, just couldn't remember my name. I can't believe I haven't run into her before as I work for the Anesthesiologists that she works with. She got me up to speed on your family and it sounds that all is well.
It was a nice Fall day in Southern Maine. Looks like it will be a decent night for Halloween on Friday. It appears the snow in the County is gone. No more snow forts for your boys Torry, at least for now. I check out the crownofmaine website/webcam occassionally and don't see any snow on the cars anymore. Take care everyone!

It is pretty pathetic that some people have such sad lives that they are envious of others and how their life turned out 20 years after high school. Almost out of California and ready to leave. Its been real and its been nice but it hasn't been real nice. Probably if I had a faster car and hung out with faster women (just kidding hun) I'd fit in a little better.
Came home to our townhouse today and was greeted by the neighbors pitbull mixed breed dog which appearantly thinks its okay to act like its going to get loose from behind the childs door gate and tear my leg off. I tried to ask the neighbors to keep their dog from doing that and they tried to explain how that they don't say anything when my kids are playing out front and making noise which could potentially aggravate their pitbull.
I know I may seem backwards but when an agressive dog such as a pitbull lives within 25 feet of my front door I want assurances that the owners have more brains than the dog. In this case I briefly listened as the male owner, who happens to be black, tried to bring up the issue of race with me as he thought I was sterio typing his pitbull as an agressive dog. In the meantime his wife, who happens to be white, continued to explain the dogs case that it has all the rights of a human being.
In the end I gave up trying to discuss the animal because the owners were more annoying than the dog!
Eric, I believe this is another good reason to drink beer.

Just catching up i think i have some of you beat on age i was 41 in April not so bad only as bad as you make it. I feel no different now then 10 years ago. Although my oldest is 17 almost 18 and going to be a senior. Did all you from the county enjoy the Phish traffic? Take care everyone

for those of you who know the twins', mary just had another baby---a boy...sorry, don't know his name...second hand information from her brother to my brother (they have been lifelong friends) now, that's something i couldn't imagine having at 40! i have a hard enough time dealing with a 10 & 13 year old--although they do act like infants sometimes! congratulations and love to you, mike and emma!

For the record I'm 41 tomorrow and I believe Albert Allen is the youngest in the class. Also, I hope 41 isn't bad cause 40 sucked.
My kids arm is now in a cast, I've replaced my trucks battery and I think we need to replace my wifes car's radiator. The volvo's seen better days but you can't beat a car that you've driven for ten years!
To be totally honest I don't know what to think about getting older anymore. I guess I'm at the point where I'm realizing that there's nothing I nor anyone else can do about it. I find it helpfull to throw my arms into the air and say "what the hell can you do about it anyway"!
Survived the latest deadline on the job. After Monday of next week we were supposed to be into liquidated damages to the tune of $45K/day. Appearantly we've received a repreive and now have until August 5th. I thnik I worked, at time frantically, atg least 80-hours this week. I hardly have time to think about anything else except there are those moments when one of the people I work with mention going to Mexico or having a great vacation. It really sucks living my life through other people, but that's the way it seems sometimes.
Have some folks from Mass. onsite starting up the equipment that hydraulically operates the main valve and gates. They remind me of things forgotten and just why I'm who I am. I relearned that being from back east (Maine) is a good thing and that I'll always be a Yankee.
Hope your summer is going well. It's always summer here so please enjoy the season's.

My son Timmy broke his arm again yesterday. The same one he broke in April! The cat had to have his face sewn back on Monday to the tune of 300$ (+)(I would personally like to eulogise that cat), My wifes car is overheating, I need a new battery in my truck, and I had my 40 salary hours in on Wednesday in the morning.

Happy 4th. Its a hot one down here and yes there's a possiblity there will be a barn burner or two down here and I'm not talking sports.
Eric, when I left Maine in 91 there weren't many local brew's to try back then. Besides seeing the family, I think a trip back up that way to sample some of the local beers would be a good thing. Something I thought was funny when my brother moved out to Oregon was when I took Brad to a microbrewery I ordered a local Pint of Black Butte Porter and Brad order a pint of Budwieser. I could not convince him for the longest time to try anything else. Thankfully my brother has weened hisself from Bud and now drinks Henry's a Northwest beer, which I enjoy when I visit him. If your ever up in Portland, Oregon you'll see what I mean when I say its the beer capital of the country. I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it.
I'm not sure how others feel about having their loved ones eulogised on this website but if I or anyone in my immediate family die's while this sites up and running please do me a favor and keep it to yourself. It may not be appearant from my verbose discourse but I just want to fade away someday down the rabbit hole.

One bottle of wine on the wall completed and ready for disposal. It would be hard to become and alchoholic drinking just wine....but there are times when being a wineo is very appealing to me. Gewurztraminer is a very fine wine. I also like any late harvest or early havest white or red table wine selected from any shelf in the grocery store. One of my very very favorites is a logan berry wine or a late harvest reislin. I also like 'turning leafs' chardonay. I like the sweet one's. "How sweet it is."
How is averyone? I feel that Mark may be able to sleep in peace now that sadam is gone. I know I should temper my comments in light of my current condition but...oh what the hell...Hamas is on the list. If they screw up the current peace initiative we'll be chasing them all the way back to Iran.
Tim, Ben, a neighbor boy, and I went swimming today. It was overcast and drizzling today so we had the pool to ourselves. I bought Ben a new lycra swim suit with floatation and we were dieing to try it out. I think he'll be swimming like a fish here before too long.
Wrapping up my work on the Olivenhain Dam mechanical work. Currently, we may be moving on up to Vancouver, Washington but I'm not entirely sure I want to. I could use some divine guidence with my and my families next move. I'm tired of it all and I don't know what to do about it currently. Its ain't simple no more.
In any case, I wish everyone a nice summer and hope everything is fine as frog hair for you. Ricky, You have my condolences.

Howdy Folks,
The local news station just jogged a deep memory I have whike they were attempting to educating the public about the significance of Iraq's History.
The newscaster explained how Iraq was "Mesopotomia the cradle of civilization" and further announced the existence of ancient hanging gardens as one of the "seven wonders of the ancient world" like it would be the first time I'd heard of it, all with a gleam in her eye!
For a brief moment the bleach blond was transformed into a gray haired, lady with rhinestone glasses wearing a 50's style skirt along with the bobby socks and saddle shoes. I immediately realized that Miss Dingwall's legacy lives on somehow through me.
The ironic part to all of this is that I really did quite poorly in Miss Dingwalls class and I didn't like her all that much (at the time).
I miss her now.

We are headed to "tournament" this weekend! Why is it that only folks from Aroostook County truely understand when we say that?? Does anyone remember our Senior Year at Tournament? I think the biggest party was at the Holiday Inn!?! I remember no sleep - playing in the band the next day and then driving home while trying not to sleep! The girls were great! That's the same as this year - the girls are much better than the boys! Keenan and his friends have big plans for tournament this year - it will be their first experience (5th graders!) I think the parents are just as excited to get away and have some fun at the Fairfield Inn!

Good news we're expecting rain this week! However, it will be somewhere's between 65 and 80 degrees F and sunny for the most part.
I know political discourse can be highly controversial but for some time now I've been wondering what to make of going to Iraq. I've come to regard war with Iraq not much of a war at all but its the after affects that I find much more disconerting
Something interesting I've recently read has helped me understand what I've been trying to understand and its history. If your interested, read the afterthoughts of General Norman Schwarzkopf's autobiography "It Doesn't Take A Hero." I find it sincere and to the point.
Today I turned on the TV and watched Madame Albright (the old battle axe) and Norman Schwarzkopf being interviewed on "Face The Nation". I wonder if this administration is listening?
On the other hand if you realize what bio terrorism or nuclear bombs can do I find it totally freaky that countries with leaders like Sadam or North Korea's dictator can get their slimy hands on them. In light of that I can understand the administrations damb the torpedo's attitude.
So here we go. One thing history in this country has taught me is that Americans will fight for what they believe in. I just hope the paths we've chosen are worth the cost if it comes to it.
In the mean time I wish I could be hunting terrorists. Now that would be fun.

Must admit I do like looking out the window in Feb. and seeing the Robins. We get just enough snow here to keep me happy. We even had a white Christmas here this year.

Yeah it was around 80-degrees here again today. I keep thinking its summer all the time which can be really quite boring weatherwise.
Went camping at Dixon Lake last weekend and had a camp-over for several of my son's friends to help celebrate his 8th birthday. Its hard to believe I too was once eight years old. We had lots of fun even though we had a bunch of paranoid park rangers pestering us at the campsite. No beer and no fire allowed! You can use charcoal though. Plenty of fire risk in this area with lots of expensive property nearby.
You know....now that I've been southern californified I doubt I can even begin to understand what its like to be a cold north eastener anymore? My my my..

I fixed the problem displaying photos. I know the hit counter on the main page doesn't work - I'll get to that another time.
If anyone is having trouble seeing photos or posting messages, make sure you don't have some kind of ad-blocking (pop-up blocking) software running. The site uses pop-ups to do its thing, so if you block them, some of the features won't work.
Hope everyone's having a nice cold winter! It's not quite as cold as the county here, but we've gotten over 100" of snow so far. It just never stops. I'll take the snow instead of -30 degree temperatures any day though!

I just moved the site to a server with a newer version of software and you may experience problems as a result. For instance the display of photos in the photo album has apparently broken. I'll try to fix that problem shortly. If you experience any problems besides that please let me know so I can fix them.

Allison i know what you mean about memories i went and watched a Messalonskee Basketball game girls and what memories it brought back. I never realized how much i enjoyed watching the game its not as popular down here as it is in PI. Of course when your a kid your probably to involved visiting with your friends to watch the game, because i'll ask my daugter the score of a game and she says i don't know i don't watch it. My daughter is going to get the experience of a lif time shes going to Florida in March to play softball for a team from Portland, Hopefuly we'll get to go too, How lucky these kids are these days. We'll hope everyone had a happy new year and my thoughts are with you all going through hard times right now becase we are too.

hope everyone had a great christmas....it was certainly a white one for us in the southern part of the state! i had a barrage of memories hit me last night---went to the wildcats basketball game in hampden...my nephew plays on the varsity team...the girls won in a close game, the boys lost by 6...brought back so many memories of school, friends, life....can't believe, or is it denial, that we have been out of school for so many years....sitting on those bleachers for a couple of hours certainly makes one feel their age!!

Lisa. Glad to hear from you! Hope you had a good holiday. Denise is still up in Bangor helping her mom out and trying to help her adjust. I thought the funeral was going to be in Bangor. Had I known it was up home I would have rode up there with Kenny so I am anxious to see Denise and make sure she is doing o.k. Hope you and the family are doing well...keep in touch Lisa! :-)

Thinking of all the good times will help Carol. Your emotions will be over-filled but they will be more joyeus than sad. I still feel that way with the loss of my mom and sister especially over the holidays but thank god we have the memories. (now that we are adults, we can more understand what our parents meant when they said that)Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!!!

You are right Torry. Marvin did graduate in 1982. Ol' Marv is still silly I see. Marvin lived in Portland for quite a few years before moving back up home a year or so ago. Marvin hung around the class of 81 which is why he must have forgotten....at least I hope that's why. I know he was around on grad night because he was the one everyone volunteered to store the liquor in his trunk. That would be an initiation of some sort in college wouldnt it? LOL

Was Marvin Cramichael in our class or '82? He installed a new washer and dryer for me yesterday and said that he graduated with us. I just couldn't remember. A lot of people get my sister, Trudy, and I mixed up so he could have been from '82.

I guess we are all reaching that stage in our lives where our parents are getting older!?! I heard someone say the other day that once we get done caring for our children we will be caring for our parents (if we haven't lost them already)! My thoughts and prayers are with both Lisa and Denise!

Hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving and are preparing for a wonderful Christmas. Only thirteen days to go!
Yeah we're still here in California. They recently voted Gov. Gray Davis back into office even after the multi-billion dollar energy deregulation debacle he was in the middle of. Now the government is chopping 10-billion dollars out of the education budget to help recover from a 20 or so billion dollar deficite. Its a strange and confusing place to me. I use a brain to money ratio analogy to help myself understand because at times it seems there's more money than brains around here.
Even now I realize the values of where I grew up and thank God that even though we didn't have much it was enough. Not too much if you know what I mean.
We finished placement of the Olivenhain Dam three weeks early and now I'm continuing on with the installation of the valves which will control the flow of water into the distrbution system. My wife is leading the Christmas float building effort for the Boy Scouts pack 640 "Pacific Desert Council". They have a 3-4 hour long chrictmas parade here in Escondido on December 14th. I have sometimes begruded the cost in time and money for her involvement with the BSA but in the end its all good. I remember the parade last year. It was 70-degrees out!
My wife's parents came down from Oregon to have Thanks Giving with us. My wifes parents are definitly a product of the 60's.....they plan to sail their 44-foot sailboat down here on their way to 15-years of sailing around the world. I used to get angry at their supposed selfishness but have learned to accept it and love them just the same. My Mother-in-law, God bless her, has recently found out she's had MS for a while now is showing some symptoms. The disease punctuates both her vunerability and her strength as she continues on with life. I know now where my wife gets her tenacity.

Maybe Martha was preparing herself for what's in store in the future. she has a home in Maine and accoriding to her neighbors, she isnt a very nice lady. But I find her shows very informative and refuse to believe a lady worth a billion dollars would bother to sell stock illegally for the sake of money. Just my opinion........ :-)

Just happened to be flipping through channels this morning and saw Martha Stewart on a harvester at the Good farm in Aroostook County....It was a nice piece. Wish I could have taped it. It talked about how school is let out, hand picking etc. Ahh, the good old days.

Hi everyone. Torry, I think I vaguely remember some music coming from somewhere that visitor asked about and I do think it was around the area where you lived. I am not sure if it was on a pole or not tho. I havent thought about that in years.Like you, I will be turning 40 in a few weeks so I could be wrong.

My memory is fading!?! I turned 40 yesterday!?! I somehow vaguely remember that same "box"! I will ask my parents about it! At least it was warmer today and most of the snow has melted.

It's official. Fall time is over and Old Man Winter has arrived. It seems that this year has zoomed right on by and Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. Torry...did they play music from some sort of box on the phone pole next to your house when we were kids or is that a faulty memory? I think the box was actually hooked up to the post office or something.??

My boys (including my husband) "love" to go to the fields after the harvester has been through to pick potatoes! You can tell they never had to do it to earn money!?! I never go with them! We actually had snow last night - it was enough so that everything was white this morning. It was gone by the time we got out of church.

All the talk about harvest certainly takes me back. Remember Potato Picker's Special on WAGM? I worked with Karen Tompkins on that show.....behind the scenes, that is. We were the ones who picked up the Dunkin Donuts at 3:45 a.m. and then made bacon and eggs for John Logan and all the crew. It made actually picking the potatoes look like a dream. We'll never forget those days, will we?

Unfortunately splattering the sniper news all over the TV only gives this guy the charge he's looking for.

Thanks for the link to the NPR story Jon. I too have haunting memories of harvest. I must admit they are good memories, although I don't remember liking it at the time. I think about it quite often this time of year when I'm getting so much stuff out of the garden. I agree with you, Todd - it's the smell of dirt that usually brings it all back.
We got an inch of snow here last night. All I have left to bring in are the potatoes. I'd give anything just for a potato digger. I only have two rows to dig, but doing it with a shovel gets old real fast. Maybe if I get some sticks and mark off sections I can get the neighbors to help. I'll pay them a penny a potato. Yeah, that'll work.

Something like that.
One more song for all you tater pickers. I think I was 6 or 7-years old but I used to go pick taters with my mom at Beaulieu's and they always played the song " Haper Valley PTA" which used to get louder as we passed the radio station out by Arnold Brook Lake.
One more thing....when ever I'm around dirt equipment with sqeeky tracks and the smell of the earth I immediately rememeber potatoe diggers and home.
